Job description
Do you have a point of view on what great UI looks like, and can you back it up with logic? Do you understand why certain visual choices work, what they signal to a user, and how to defend those decisions when pushed? And do you know how to channel that visual expertise into the broader UX, becoming a genuine thought partner to product teams, owning the user journey from strategy to pixel?
AIHR is looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer who can own the visual identity of a growing eLearning platform. bringing consistency to a fragmented product, advising product teams on design decisions, and setting a bar for what good looks like. Join us and work to drive a cohesive, intuitive user experience across the entire AIHR Academy.
About AIHR
Founded in 2016 with the mission to future-proof HR, the Academy to Innovate HR (AIHR) has become the world’s market leader in online training for human resources (HR) professionals. We have a global customer base spread across 140+ countries, amongst which companies like Unilever, Reckitt, Goldman Sachs, Philips, Deloitte, Nike, Heineken, and UBS. It is our goal to continuously upskill and empower 1,000,000 HR Professionals.
We are an international team of 90+ people, driven by excellence, innovation, and a hunger to grow in everything we do. As such, we strive to provide the world’s best courses and excellent support to our customers while continuously optimizing every aspect of our work. With over 30 nationalities, our team is diverse, yet we all share a few traits: we're friendly, enthusiastic, and great team players.
Being a fast-growing company, working at AIHR means taking on a lot of responsibility and getting countless opportunities to develop yourself in new areas and potential to craft your own role.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Senior UI/UX Designer, you are the owner of visual excellence and user experience across the entire AIHR Academy. You set the bar for what good UI looks like, maintain and evolve our design system, and ensure every product surface reflects a cohesive, intentional visual identity from our course catalog and dashboards to AIHR Copilot.
You are also a strategic thought partner to our product teams. You partner with Product, Engineering, and business stakeholders to define problems, lead discovery, and translate insights into intuitive user experience and high-fidelity designs. You will influence team-level decisions through clear design rationales and storytelling, ensuring UX and UI choices are backed by data and logic.
In practice, this means defending visual choices with logic, navigating feedback from senior stakeholders without losing the integrity of the design, and knowing when to push for the right solution versus when to ship something good enough. You create documentation that guides implementation, run the user research you need to back your decisions, and manage multiple workstreams without losing attention to detail.
On a typical week
On a typical Monday morning, you start the day with a Product Management weekly meeting to update each other on priorities and discuss blockers across our squads. After the meeting, you sit down with Aliia, Front-End Developer, to discuss the UI unification project. The engineers started implementing the new navigation design, but some decisions need to be revisited because there are constraints across different platforms. You and Aliia brainstorm pragmatic, incremental steps to ensure a unified look and feel without slowing down the development cycle. In the afternoon, you’re back in Figma to refine the component library, document interaction states, and resolve edge cases that came up in the conversation with Aliia.
On Wednesday morning, you prepare for a high-stakes stakeholder meeting. Your goal is to walk Filippos, VP of Product, and Silvia, Head of Product through the Course Catalog discovery and proposal. Before the meeting, you revisit the Course Catalog designs, tightening the visual hierarchy, pressure-testing your color and typography choices, and making sure every decision has a clear rationale you can defend. In the meeting, you walk through the research, data, and logic behind your UI/UX recommendations. You proactively ask whether this approach is aligned with business objectives and take note of the feedback.
In the afternoon, you present your Personalized Learning Journey prototype to the Member Squad during sprint refinement. Alice, a Senior PM, asks questions about your flow while Igor, a Tech Lead, raises concerns about implementation complexity. The team discusses options and decides to iterate async via Slack.
On Friday, you gather feedback from the Member squad and finalize the high-fidelity Personalized Learning Journey design. You resolve implementation constraints, decide which visual compromises you’ll accept and which you’ll push back on, and document specs that will guide the build. You present this design to the VP of Product, defending your UI choices by walking him through the thinking behind your choices. Afterwards, we join the monthly business update during which all the results of the previous month are shared by the founders with everyone. We then gather with a drink for our weekly team activity, a chance to unwind and get to know colleagues who recently joined.

Job requirements
Who you are
We are looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer who leads with visual craft and brings the strategic mindset needed to navigate a fast-growing scale-up. You can articulate what good UI looks like and why, bringing a reasoned perspective to design decisions that invites dialogue rather than closes it.
You could be our ideal candidate if:
You have 5+ years of experience as a UI/UX designer in B2B SaaS products, preferably in eLearning, and HR tech.
You have a strong visual craft. You understand the reasoning behind UI decisions, from visual hierarchy and color to interaction states and component behavior, and you can defend those choices clearly to stakeholders.
You maintain and evolve a unified design system to ensure consistency and efficiency across all products.
You provide consistent support on design execution, ranging from rapid prototyping to detailed documentation in Figma that guides technical implementation.
You independently define research goals, conduct user interviews or usability tests, and translate insights into documented outcomes that guide product decisions.
You have a broad range of experience, from building 0-to-1 initiatives to redesigning and iterating existing products to improve product-market fit.
You have experience as the sole or lead designer in a scale-up, or have independently owned end-to-end design for multiple products in a larger team. You are comfortable making product decisions without a design manager above you.
You view feedback as a gift and a tool for refinement, not a critique of your craft. You are comfortable standing your ground with data and principles, yet remain flexible enough to pivot when needed.
You maintain a high affinity for using AI tools to enhance the quality of design outputs and overall productivity.
You are native or fluent in English and able to work 2-3 days a week from our office in Rotterdam for faster onboarding and coordination.
